Enoch Arden: a powerful collaboration between leading Australian artists, Simon Tedeschi and John Bell AO OBE
New: Enoch Arden LIVE REVIEWS John Bell and Simon Tedeschi
Pianist Simon Tedeschi has partnered with illustrious actor and founder of Bell Shakespeare, John Bell, to breathe new life into the story of Enoch Arden, Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s epic poem o f 1864. Richard Strauss’ evocative piano score renders even more vivid this dramatic and moving story of love, loss and redemption, in a moving and emotional interweaving of spoken word and solo piano.
Now available as a recording through ABC Classics, the album also includes Simon’s performance of Songs of Dawn (Gesänge der Frühe) for solo piano by Robert Schumann. Simon describes the five songs as “devotional one minute, white-hot the next, and then heartbreakingly lyrical, ending with a hymn-like movement that, to me, is as palpable a winding-down of the human spirit as Beethoven’s last Piano Sonata.” The album has been selected for ‘CD of the Week’ on both ABC Classic FM and Fine Music 102.5FM.
