As 2017 Composer-in-Residence, “the immensely talented” Dr Daniel Rojas is described as “a kaleidoscopic virtuoso whose music throbs with energy and hums with irrepressible joy”. The Willoughby Symphony Orchestra has been led since 2001 by internationally acclaimed Australian conductor, Dr Nicholas Milton, as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director. In its 2017 season, the Orchestra proudly presents three of his works: Rojas’ Piano Concerto no.1, ‘The Latin’, on April 29 and 30 with Daniel as piano soloist; the Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra (soloist Claire Edwardes); and the world premiere of Rojas’ work for orchestra and mezzo soprano, ‘Cantos Espanoles: 3 songs of Garcia Lorca’ (soloist Jenny Duck-Chong).
